The Eldorado Area Teaching and Demonstration Garden (EATDG) Project started to create a Vista Grande Public Library Landscape Design Book (The Book) in late April 2009. The Book project brought together Master Gardeners and community members to identify which plants were where in the plots around the Library, create plant pages to help maintain the plants, and create The Book as a community resource for use in home gardens.

The Eldorado Area Teaching and Demonstration Garden Project was started in 2007 by Jill Charboneau and Dana Simmons, the Project Leaders and certified Master Gardeners. The Santa Fe Master Gardener Association sponsored the EATDG project.

In April, the Santa Fe Master Garden student Class of 2009, came to the Library as a field exercise class to apply what they had been learning in their course since early February. Teams of students were assigned to each plot and over the course of two hours identified the plants and placed them on blank plot maps. The result of this exercise was the core input used by the VGPL Landscape Design Book project volunteers to enhance and publish The Book.
