Recurring Programs

The Vista Grande Public Library is dedicated to providing quality programs to the children and families of our community. We offer a variety of programs for children, youth, young adults, adults and families.

Story Time (Toddler to Preschool)

Thursday mornings at 10:30 am in the library.

After School Reading (K-3)

This program is designed to encourage reading for pleasure and enjoyment of the library in elementary students in grades K to 3.  The meetings are on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons from 3 to 4:30 pm. Parents must register their student at the beginning of each semester for which day they want them to attend. To maintain a quality experience for participants, enrollment will be limited. As of now, the Wednesday group is at capacity; Tuesday still has slots available.

The Fall Session begins September 10 and runs to November 20. Click here to print a registration form and return it to the library. You can also email a completed form to libasst@vglibrary.org .

Wags and Words - Read to a Dog! (K-5)

Got a young reader who is a beginner, or who struggles with reading aloud? Sign up your child for an appointment with a Reading Education Assistance Dog from the Pet Outreach Services of the Santa Fe Animal Shelter.

To learn more or to sign up for an open slot, call 505-466-7323 or email Tracey at libasst@vglibrary.org.

Summer Reading Program

Each summer the Library hosts a themed youth summer reading program that encourages independent and community reading, presents special events, and offers prizes for achieving milestones. Information and registration will be provided during the spring.

All Ages - Chess Club

Club meets Friday afternoons from 3-5 pm. All ages and skill levels are welcomed to learn and play. Children under 12 need parental permission; all other ages can drop in any week.

Art Exhibitions

Each month the Library hosts local artists of a variety of mediums to display and sell their artworks, with 20% of sales donated back to the library to support programs. Artist receptions are held one Saturday each month where patrons are invited to meet each artist, engage in artistic dialog and purchase unique pieces. For more information, or to apply to display artwork, visit our Art Exhibition page.
